In simple wording, Consumer complaint is a person’s dissatisfaction or unacceptable state with a company, brand, product, or service.
There is a need to protect the consumers because the goods we buy and the services we use for the necessities of our life sometimes are not of the quality we want and relatively the price we pay is of higher than the original price. And because of the consistency and abundance of these problems, we need law for Consumer protection. The government keeping this in mind passed the Consumer Protection Act.
Money spent on or the payment done for the Goods and Services will be reimbursed.
All the expenses related to filed complaint and the legal activities will be reimbursed.
Any Suffering or Loss including mental distress that is caused by faulty product or service will also be compensated.
The vendor or the service provider will be forced to stop unfair trade practices.
Consumer Protection Bill was introduced in Loksabha in 2019 and this act come in the place of Consumer Protection Act, 1986. Rights of the consumer given in this bill are: -
It provides protection against marketing goods and product which are harmful to life.
Right to information in regards to quality, quantity, purity, standard and price of goods and services.
Reimbursement against unfair Trade Practices.
Right of access to different products and services at competitive cost.
A Consumer Complaint may be filed on the following ground:
Service Deficiency
Medical Negligence
Product Manufacturing Defect or Defective Goods
Unfair Trade Practices or Restrictive Trade Practices
If any of the grounds given satisfied in his/her case.
If the statutory period of 2 years has not lapsed from the date of cause of action.

Consumers have the right to a fair and honest marketplace, to be protected from false or misleading advertising and to receive accurate information about the products and services they purchase. Consumers also have the right to seek redress for grievances through appropriate channels.
